This continued from 2016 until 2018, where the game announced that it was once again changing hands, from Sumo Digital to an internal studio at Deep Silver: Dambuster Studios. In 2016, Sumo Digital, the minds behind LittleBigPlanet 3, would be taking the helm for Dead Island 2’s development. Now, the game fell upon another developer. However, things seemed to not work out for Yager Development.ĭeep Silver and Yager Development had misaligned their visions for the game, and players were let down once again when Yager stepped out of the developer’s chair and filed for insolvency in 2015. The game started moving along swimmingly, with gameplay being shown at Gamescom 2014. The task of developing Dead Island 2 fell to Yager Development. Games and started work on their new series Dying Light, which would become another massively popular title, with its sequel launching this year. Techland moved from Dead Island to Warner Bros. However, Dead Island 2 fell into trouble. After the success of Dead Island and Dead Island Riptide, Techland announced the return of Dead Island in a cinematic trailer in the same vein as the trailer for the first game. The game did surprisingly well and got a standalone DLC expansion labeled Riptide. Much like a more gruesome version of Dead Rising, the original game placed four players into an open-world setting and let them explore the resort on the fictional island of Banoi. However, one game managed to stay within the public consciousness during the many years since its announcement in 2014.ĭeep Silver’s Dead Island 2 was announced as the third installment in the third-person survival zombie game. While many expect news on Metroid Prime 4 or Bayonetta, some hold hope for news on Elden Ring.
